Charlotte Awbery– newly minted musical icon and indisputable rival to today’s most effective pop girls– has officially gone global.
The British vocalist, who went viral earlier this month after a video of her singing Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper‘s “Shallow” in a London tube station struck the web, attacked America Wednesday with another performance (below) of the Oscar-winning tune on the The Ellen DeGeneres Program
After powering through a remarkable performance of the track, which struck No. 1 on the American charts last year, Awbery sat down with DeGeneres for an interview in which she stressed that the moment that made her internet-famous wasn’t staged.
” I was literally on my method to satisfy my buddy … I’m definitely overwhelmed by all of this,” the Essex-based performer stated, adding that, up until over 60 million people saw her recent video, her profession had actually been restricted to singing at weddings, pubs, and restaurants throughout the last 15 years. “My father’s always stated to me: ‘Wherever you are, constantly sing … Never ever quit.’ He’s ideal.”
DeGeneres closed the segment by providing Awbery with a year-long pass to ride the London Tube and ₤10,000 in money.
Gaga– who revealed the release of her brand-new single “Stupid Love” Tuesday– and Cooper, who initially performed “Shallow” in their 2018 hit movie A Star Is Born, have yet to openly comment on the vocalist’s viral popularity.
